Jaden is 11 months old!

Jaden turned 11 months old two days ago... that's so hard to believe! He's so much fun -- he is eating so many foods now (tried grilled cheese tonight, and he seemed to like it)! He's starting to do this little dance now every time he hears music, and he's also learning how to score baskets with his new basketball hoop. I am loving spending so much time with him during my time off.

Yesterday we took him to daycare for a little while so that Cody and I could do some post-Christmas shopping -- and we enjoyed a movie together in the afternoon -- we went and saw Four Christmases! I have posted the video from tonight... enjoy!

Christmas!

Hope everyone had a good Christmas! So far we've had a good one. (We have two more Christmases to go)! Jaden has received lots of new toys, which allowed me to put all of his old "baby" toys away... yay! He wasn't very good at opening the presents though... he never wanted to sit still long enough to do it! We spent Christmas morning just the three of us at our home so that we didn't have to rush to get anywhere. We then went to my parents' for brunch and presents. Mid-afternoon we headed to Aplington to Cody's parents. There was a cute moment when Jaden's cousin Ella, who is two and a half, sat down right next to Jaden on the floor and put her arm around him while we were watching a movie!

I got a special Christmas present from my boss. I took Wednesday off (Christmas Eve), and the company had planned to give us Christmas day and the day after off. However, on Wednesday my boss called me and told me that as a Christmas present the president of the company wanted to give all of the employees all of next week off, too -- completely paid! And we don't have to use any of our time-off days. I'm so excited!! A whole week off with nothing important to get done. I think I'm going to take Jaden to daycare one day just so that I can have a full day to myself.

Tomorrow we have Christmas with my mom's side of the family in Cedar Rapids. Then Sunday we have Christmas at Cody's grandma's in Allison. Two days in a row of nothing but Christmas... it'll be nice to be able to relax next week!

the weekend

Well... we had a pretty low-key weekend. Friday night we went out with the family to Texas Roadhouse for my birthday (which was last week). Jaden had a great time and was very excited to be sitting at the table with everyone. He even tried some of the tomatoes from Mommy's salad. My dearest family let the Texas Roadhouse staff know it was my birthday... so I had to get on the saddle in front of the whole restaurant while they did the whole "yeehaww!" Oh well -- a memory made, I guess ;) Luckily there wasn't a camera there to catch the action.

Jaden continues to get older and older each day. He only napped once both days this weekend instead of his two naps a day we have been used to. This makes things rough once it starts getting dark as he starts getting cranky. But we still love going into his room after he's woken up because he's always so excited to play and we get such great smiles and giggles from him.

The snow and the weather kept us indoors pretty much the whole two days. Cody had to work Friday night and Saturday night to keep snow out of the parking lots. I spent a lot of time on Sunday vegging out and watching my Friends DVDs while Jaden napped. I also worked on our video camera and finally learned how to upload the videos onto my computer so I can share them with everyone. We don't have any recent footage (we will take some this week with Christmas and everything), but I thought I'd post video from months ago when Jaden was very little. Doesn't seem real that he was ever that tiny!

Here is a picture of Jaden anxiously waiting to get into his bath... he is such a little fishy!

growing baby

Jaden continues to grow up every day. He had a busy weekend -- he's such a busy little boy now! Saturday Cody and I went to the UNI football semi-final game in the Dome. Jaden spent some of that time with Jami, his regular sitter, but Cody's grandparents Don and Alda picked him up before the game was over. He had a great time with them until it got time for him to go to bed. He cried and cried until Cody and I got home. It was the first time in a very long time that anyone else had tried putting him to sleep so I think he was a little confused and worried about where Cody and I were. Also, we believe he is teething -- possibly getting molars -- he's been having some rough nights off and on and a very sore bottom -- which is a definite sign of teething. Hopefully it doesn't take too long for this round of teeth to pop through the skin.

Sunday morning when Jaden woke up and I heard him talking to himself in his room, I walked in and he was standing up in his crib! It was the first time he had pulled himself to a standing position all by himself -- we had to lower the crib mattress to the very lowest point because he was bending over the crib so far (trying to get to his pacifier on the floor) that he was about ready to flip himself right out of it! He also has stood a couple of times since then -- every time we fill the bath up for his baths he crawls into the bathroom and pulls himself up to look into the tub as the water is going into it. He LOVES his baths!! Once he realizes we're getting his bath ready, he gets mad when we have to take the time to take his clothes off -- he just wants to jump right in!

He's doing better at eating and chewing "real" food now, too. Tonight we tried real bananas for the first time (instead of the baby food kind) -- he liked them except for the fact that he had trouble picking them up on his own. The little banana pieces were too slippery for his little fingers and he struggled. He'd get mad that he couldn't do it on his own, but when we tried to help him, he'd get frustrated and try to swat our hands away. He's becoming Mr. Independent! (And becoming more exhausting, on top of it)!

That about wraps this one up -- we're really bummed that the Panthers couldn't advance to the national championship -- and that's all I'm going to say about the issue because I still don't like talking about it. I would have posted pictures but my camera battery is charging -- I'll post more soon!

Welcome to our blog!

I have decided to start blogging -- it seems our life as a family is never dull and boring so I want to keep all of you updated on the many happenings! I won't go back and try to bring everyone up to speed with everything that's happened in the last year. I will just start with today and try to update often!

Last night we decided it was time to no longer use the "baby" tub for Jaden. He had been trying to climb out of it lately and get into the "big" tub -- getting him to sit still was quite a challenge! So Cody went out and bought a Spongebob Square Pants bathtub mat so that Jaden wouldn't slip and slide on surface of the tub. We put him in there with his bath toys, and he was in heaven! He loves his new bath space -- so much room to move around in. I can't wait for this summer when we can put him in the pool... he will love it :) Also in recent bath events, Cody decided it would be fun to give him a mohawk -- I'm so glad he did because we got such a cute picture out of it!
In other news, we are getting very excited for this weekend. UNI football will be playing Richmond in the semi-finals in the Dome -- a win on Saturday, and we will be off to the National Championship next week! It was such a fun experience when we went three years ago -- I'm excited to have the chance to take Cody along for the ride this time. However, it will be the first time that I leave Jaden for more than a day so I'm a bit nervous about that. But we have to take it one step at a time... first we have to win on Saturday!
Jaden did something for the first time this morning when I dropped him off at daycare -- I set him down in Jami's living room (she is our sitter, and we love her!) -- he was content playing with the toys until I said goodbye and he saw me walk out of the room. He immediately started whining and stuck his bottom lip out in a pout. He didn't want me to leave! Normally when I drop him off he's perfectly happy and eager to play -- and also very happy when I pick him up at the end of the day -- so this reaction surprised me a bit! But I picked him up and put him in her high chair so she could feed him breakfast -- and then he was perfectly fine again.
I think that about does it for my first post... looking forward to a busy weekend of football and Christmas shopping. I think I'll have to spend my entire day Sunday out shopping as I have not done nearly enough at this point. We are very excited for Jaden's first Christmas, and we have our first family Christmas a week from sunday already... hard to believe!
