growing baby

Jaden continues to grow up every day. He had a busy weekend -- he's such a busy little boy now! Saturday Cody and I went to the UNI football semi-final game in the Dome. Jaden spent some of that time with Jami, his regular sitter, but Cody's grandparents Don and Alda picked him up before the game was over. He had a great time with them until it got time for him to go to bed. He cried and cried until Cody and I got home. It was the first time in a very long time that anyone else had tried putting him to sleep so I think he was a little confused and worried about where Cody and I were. Also, we believe he is teething -- possibly getting molars -- he's been having some rough nights off and on and a very sore bottom -- which is a definite sign of teething. Hopefully it doesn't take too long for this round of teeth to pop through the skin.

Sunday morning when Jaden woke up and I heard him talking to himself in his room, I walked in and he was standing up in his crib! It was the first time he had pulled himself to a standing position all by himself -- we had to lower the crib mattress to the very lowest point because he was bending over the crib so far (trying to get to his pacifier on the floor) that he was about ready to flip himself right out of it! He also has stood a couple of times since then -- every time we fill the bath up for his baths he crawls into the bathroom and pulls himself up to look into the tub as the water is going into it. He LOVES his baths!! Once he realizes we're getting his bath ready, he gets mad when we have to take the time to take his clothes off -- he just wants to jump right in!

He's doing better at eating and chewing "real" food now, too. Tonight we tried real bananas for the first time (instead of the baby food kind) -- he liked them except for the fact that he had trouble picking them up on his own. The little banana pieces were too slippery for his little fingers and he struggled. He'd get mad that he couldn't do it on his own, but when we tried to help him, he'd get frustrated and try to swat our hands away. He's becoming Mr. Independent! (And becoming more exhausting, on top of it)!

That about wraps this one up -- we're really bummed that the Panthers couldn't advance to the national championship -- and that's all I'm going to say about the issue because I still don't like talking about it. I would have posted pictures but my camera battery is charging -- I'll post more soon!
