Chatterbox Kids

Both of my boys started talking even more over the weekend. Jaden has been a talkative little guy for a long time now, but now he's REALLY talking -- starting to put more full sentences together and trying to have conversations. His newest favorite phrase is "what's that?" I think I answered that question a dozen times this morning!

Brandon was talking baby talk all day yesterday, and whenever he'd start cooing, I couldn't even think of walking away from him! He has his mommy wrapped very tightly around his little fingers, and I am trying to soak up every minute of it because I know from experience with Jaden that he will grow way too fast. I know that each new and fun phase will only last a split second, and he will be onto another new thing within the blink of an eye!

Another recent happening was Jaden wanting to sit on his potty. I was putting him to bed the other night, and as I was walking out of his room, he said, "poop!" I said, "Did you poop your pants?" He said, "yes." I went and peeked in his diaper, and there was nothing in there. (I did however smell that he had tooted!) I then said to him, "You didn't go poop, but do you have to go poop?" He replied, "yes - with book!" So we grabbed his book and went and sat on the potty. He was so proud of himself. He didn't actually have to go to the bathroom, but I think when he tooted he recognized the feeling of maybe having to go to the bathroom? He was treated with a chocolate teddy graham after he got up, and now that's the new deal. Whenever he sits on the potty like a big boy, he gets a "piece of chocolate." We haven't actually gotten him to go in the potty yet, but we are just excited that he's actually willing to try. Until recently he would kick and scream and cry big tears if we made him sit on there! I'm noticing though that this is going to be something that takes a lot of time and patience. Whenever he asks to sit on it, we have to let him and encourage him even though it could mean us standing around the bathroom for minutes at a time waiting for something to happen! I should mention also that his favorite book and movie right now is the Potty Time Elmo DVD and the Potty Time Elmo book he has. Whenever he wants to watch or read, he says "Potty Elmo??"

Mother's Day/Anniversary

We enjoyed a pretty low-key Mother's Day. We took our time getting ready in the morning before going to the 10:30 church service. Cody, Jaden and Brandon gave me a card that Jaden had colored on. On the envelope to the card Jaden drew T.C.'s house (the Dome), a football and a dolphin (his stuffed dolphin, Flipper, is one of his new favorite things). ;) We then went to Park Place for a Mother's Day brunch... which is always wonderful.

Brandon smiling at Cody -- he always smiles big for his Daddy!

We had a big group - me, Cody, Jaden and Brandon, my mom and dad, Cody's parents and sister Cassi, our niece Ella, Cody's grandpa and grandma Don and Alda and his grandma Grayce.
Ella and Jaden always have a good time when they are together. I wasn't able to get any pictures of me with the two boys -- Jaden is nearly impossible to get to sit still for a picture right now! After the brunch, we went home and Jaden, Brandon and I enjoyed some nap time and a relaxing evening.
How cute is little Brandon??!!

Here is Jaden with Cody's dad and our neice Ella at Park Place.

Unfortunately, Jaden came down with a cold on Saturday -- I was kept awake last night with a scratchy/sore throat and stuffy nose, and this morning when he woke up, Brandon was coughing quite a bit. Ugh... here we go again... No matter how much I try and keep Jaden and Brandon separated when Jaden is sick, it doesn't ever seem to keep those darn germs from spreading! And I'm constantly washing my hands and using hand sanitizer! I wonder if someone will ever come up with a cure for the common cold???

Today is Cody and my second wedding anniversary. In those two years, we've had two kids, moved twice, started two new jobs, bought a house, etc. etc. I can hardly wait to see what the next year holds!!

Back to Reality

Today was my first full day back at work. Here's how it went:
*Had to take Brandon to get his first round of shots (three of them).
*Got a negative report about Jaden from the babysitter when picking the boys up at the end of the day -- the first negative report I've ever gotten. Turns out he was very naughty all day. The highlight was him sitting on a smaller child. Yes - sitting on him.
*Jaden continued to throw tear filled fits after we got home. We finally discovered that the very last of his two year molars is coming in.
*Both boys are on Tylenol, and this mommy is taking lots of Zicam to try and fight off a cold she feels coming on.
*Cody completely forgot to show up at Brandon's doctor's appointment to help me with the whole shots ordeal -- even though he was reminded countless times over the weekend and just three hours before the actual appointment. (I'm a little tired of going to doctor's appointments by myself. Because Brandon was somewhat jaundice after he was born, I had to go to the doctor with him just three days after we were released from the hospital. Then I had to take him again when he was five weeks old because of a cold. So this was the third trip to the doctor in two months. Not to mention I've been to my own doctor three times since the c-section for follow ups and infections). I've had enough doctor visits!! :)

But everything's okay - because in between all of the tears, both boys were still able to show us their smiles. That's all that matters --- right?? :)

2 Months old!

Brandon turned two months old yesterday... can't believe it! He had his doctor's visit today and is continuing to grow the way he should be. He weighed in at 12 lbs. 5 oz. and is 22 1/2 inches long. Kind of funny -- he is now just reaching the length that Jaden was when he was born! This puts Brandon in the 50th percentile for both height and weight. We had quite the time getting to the appointment. I had to go pick him up from daycare. He'd been sleeping so he hadn't eaten since 8:30 (almost three hours earlier) -- so of course when he got woken up to be put in the car seat he was immediately hungry -- and mad! On top of that, Jaden didn't understand why he was being left at daycare while Brandon was getting to leave with Mommy -- so Jaden threw a huge fit with big tear drops and all. I was running late already so I didn't have time to feed Brandon before getting in the car so he continued to cry the entire 15 minutes to the doctor's office. Luckily they got me in a room right away and I was able to feed him as soon as they weighed and measured him. As soon as he was done eating, he was all smiles again. Until the three shots they had to give him -- but a minute after getting the shots, he was fine. He is such a good baby. We are so blessed by how sweet he is. He is "talking" more and more and continues to smile every day. He still averages waking up twice a night... but last night he only got up once! He is the poster child for convincing me to have a third baby.... (I like to tell Cody this to scare him) ;) -- but working full time has convinced me to stop at two. It's already hard enough to get quality time with everyone in my family -- I think it'd be too hard on me to have a third. Brandon's newest "trick" is batting at the toys that hang in front of him on his bouncy seat. Up until this past weekend, he didn't really look at them or pay any attention to them, but this weekend he actually started smiling at them -- and even though he can't grasp them yet -- he has taken a swing at them a few times!

Jaden is definitely a full-blown two year old now. He has his moments of pure sweetness and his moments of pure terror! There are times where he does exactly what we ask him to -- and times where he stares at us and does the exact opposite of what he's being told. However, I continue to be grateful for his love for Brandon. Just this morning, he went over to Brandon's toy basket and brought out about five things and laid them on the floor next to Brandon. He even put Brandon's little keys on Brandon's tummy since Jaden is realizing that Brandon can't actually hold onto anything! We all know how Jaden is with food (LOVES TO EAT) -- but this morning he brought part of his breakfast bar to Brandon and tried offering it to him -- I can't believe he actually wanted to share his food! He never wants to share with Mommy or Daddy! Yesterday, he brought the pacifier to Brandon and put it in his mouth for him. So cute.

I love my boys!
