This week has kind of been the "eye" of the storm so-to-speak. Not a bad storm, but a chaotic mass of wind that's shaking up and changing everything in its path. The last couple of months have been so busy - holidays and birthdays - huge changes at work. Days filled with meetings, hiring new employees, building out new office space, waiting on answered prayers. Next week I start training the girl that will be taking my place in the office I have spent the last 3 1/2 years calling mine. This is a good thing, and I'm ready for it. Because after I'm done training her, I get to start working from home. A prize I've been waiting for since July of last year. I love my company, and I'm ready to take the next step in my career here. But it will be busy. And it will be slightly stressful. And it will be change. And next week and the few weeks after it are going to be filled with lots of hard work, lots of meetings, lots of organizing and re-organizing. And some painting, too.

But this week... this week has been a lull in the action. Most of the big decisions have been made. Most of the plans have been finalized. The birthday parties have come and gone. And I've been left with a lot of quiet time to sit and think. To long for spring. To daydream about the exciting times ahead. (And to begrudge that it's a leap year, requiring me to wait one extra day to get my end-of-the-month paycheck).

Sitting in my windowless office, daydreaming about the not-so-distant future of sitting in my home office looking out the opened window to my front yard. Daydreaming about...

-The first lawn mowing of the season. The smell of fresh cut grass and the first spots of green leaves on the trees.
-Filling my cute little white flower bench with fresh pink flowers and sitting out on our deck admiring them with a Dairy Queen Blizzard in hand.
-Watching our boys learn to ride their bikes and their new scooter.
-Pushing Brandon in his tree swing.
-Evenings spent at the park. I have big plans this spring/summer to visit every park in the city. (Or at least most of them).
-Evening walks after supper, watching the sun set a little later every night.
-Steak and veggie kabobs on THE GRILL.
-March 1st. Scentsy's Spring/Summer catalog comes out. I cannot wait.
-A family trip to Dairy Queen.
-Driving with the windows down.
-Sending the boys out the door without coats and hats.
-Removing socks from the normal laundry load thanks to flip flops and sandals.
-Cute plaid shorts on my little boys' legs.
-A new pair of sunglasses to replace the two pairs I lost last summer.
-Decorating for Easter.
-Dying Easter eggs.
-Reading Easter stories.
-A trip to Bath and Body Works for some spring Wallflowers and candles.
-A middle-of-the-day black sky followed by a good thunderstorm.
-Falling to sleep with the windows open
-A lower utility bill.
-March Madness.
-Spring football. Yes... I love football enough to get excited about spring drills. I just want some football back in my life!
-A possible visit from a Florida-based relative?
-Chalk on the driveway.
-An evening dinner at a park. Hot dogs, cheese, chips, applesauce and juice. I think the boys can get behind that.

 We're so very very close!

A Birthday Weekend

It is officially Brandon's birthday week! Even though his actual birthday isn't until this Friday, we celebrated this past Friday night since it was the only time we could get everyone together. I took Friday afternoon off  work to get everything set up for our Mickey Mouse themed party.

The details...

Mickey cheese!

I made sure that when Brandon and Jaden arrived to the party first, that there were balloons blown up and laying all over the place. This was a HIT.

Of course with a two-year old's birthday party, flexibility is key. We let the boys start eating their food before all the guests arrived because how can you tell them 'no' when it's sitting out right in front of them?

...And then there was the fact that Brandon did not want us to sing 'Happy Birthday' to him, and he refused to eat the cake that we had bought especially for him because he much preferred eating the cupcakes he had watched Mommy bake and decorate. Oh yea... and Jaden thought the number two candle he watched me blow out was actually edible. All of the sudden we noticed him chewing something strangely and then saw the big chunk taken out of the tip of the candle. And Brandon couldn't have cared less about his presents. He just wanted to keep snacking and playing with the balloons. Like I said... flexibility. ;)

Cody's 30th birthday was Saturday (which he and I celebrated with a date night to Sakura and 'The Vow') -- so Cody's grandma brought him his traditional present - a jar of peanuts. Cody's a big fan.

The sunglasses were a big hit... and he's been rockin 'em all weekend.

Can't believe we're four days shy of the big T-W-O!

Almost TWO...

Not a lot to write about today. Just wanted to share some pictures. Somebody is about to turn Two...

He found his daddy's head phones.

This one is too cute not to post. It's blurry because he tried to attack the camera.

He knows how to kick back. He's even got the belly hanging out.

Brandon has to sit as close to Jaden as possible when they get their books out. (And if I could have gotten a shot of Jaden looking at the camera, I would have. He's stubborn, that older son of ours).

Brandon's getting really into books. But when he finds a picture on a page he likes, he won't let us turn the page. He can stare at the same page for 20 minutes...

In this case with the story of "The Very Hungry Caterpillar," it was the page with the picture of the slice of cake and the cupcake on it. "Cake! Cake! Cake!!" I never did get to read this book all the way to the end.

It's a birthday week in our family. Brandon's party is Friday night, Cody turns 30 on Saturday, and Brandon's actual birthday is next week! Be prepared for this blog to be flooded with pictures. ;)

Happy Wednesday!

Valentine's Wrap-Up and Spring Fever

Valentine's Day came and went...

...complete with a 25th Anniversary Limited Edition of the Care Bears Movie (because the Care Bears really are all about love, right?)... lots of cool new crayons and markers to add to our collection...

...new books, a dancing Monkey...

...and lots of treats. Including a Scratch Cupcake... or eight.

He only eats the frosting...

With the passing of another winter holiday, the continued melting of the snow in our yard, and some sunshine on a Saturday... we got the Spring itch. So after lunch, we headed outside to explore some territory... and some toys... that we hadn't seen since Halloween. It felt good.

Time for some fishing lessons...

Brandon was SO happy to get back in his swing.

After naps, we took a family trip to Barnes and Noble, and the kids each picked out their own Easter book. Jaden is completely into this holiday thing now and is really starting to understand the concept of each special day.

Bring on Easter. Bring on April showers and May flowers. Bring on SPRING. I've got the fever...
