Mommy's Shoes

Brandon has developed a fettish.

For  my shoes.

His new favorite activity is to go to the basket where my shoes are kept, pick out one flip flop from one pair and a non-matching flip flop from another pair, slide them on his feet... and wear them. Everywhere. He won't do this with Cody's flip flops... which conerns Cody a little bit. I think he just likes the challenge of wearing something that is far too big for him and then try to maneuver around with them everywhere he goes. And I do mean everywhere. "Mommy's shoes! Mommy's shoes!"

He can be so entertained by this for such a long period of time. Aren't little people funny?? He could be a pro with some snow shoes one day.

Not many pictures taken this week... I've been battling a summer cold, and my head has been kind of trapped in an endless fog. A rainy day today, a warm cup of coffee, and temps cool enough to throw on my sweats... just what the doctor ordered. (And maybe a trip to Target later?!) Happy Thursday!

Memorial Weekend

Too sleepy to write much tonight and a busy day tomorrow, as even though I have been on vacation over the weekend... my Inbox has not been. ;) It was a great Memorial Day weekend, and our kids had so much fun. Little party animals, we're creating!

A brief recap:

...a rainy evening, an easy supper and family time in the basement. Brandon dumped every single toy bucket out on the floor, and Jaden and I bonded over Mario.

...shopping for a new table for our deck, Deanne's birthday, a family dinner at Brown Bottle and a post-supper visit to the park to burn off all that food our boys devoured. I've never seen them eat so well. Brandon ate three pieces of his children's pizza, Jaden ate his entire pizza plus a piece of Brandon's, and they enjoyed some of Deanne's birthday cake. The park right across the street was the perfect night cap. Jaden, Brandon and Ella ran and played perfectly together while the adults sat on the benches and planned summer-time tubing and camping trips. And Brandon's appearance by the end of the night? The all-American boy. Dirt smeared from head to toe, sweaty hair and a smile plastered on his face.

...Brandon rocked his first morning in his new Sunday school class, Cody and my dad put together our new table and we spent as much time as we could around the water. It was a hot one!

Brandon spent the afternoon running around in nothing but a diaper and even decided he didn't feel like a nap. After an hour in his room, he was getting pretty chatty, and as soon as I opened his bedroom door, he threw his hands out to the side and said, "All done?!"

This child has skinned knees all the time!

...Sunday afternoon... we visited Beaver Hills pool for the first time this year, and our kids were little fishies.

They both enjoyed going down the water slide over and over again, and Brandon lived up to his dare devil nickname by jumping in off the edge repeatedly (into Daddy's arms of course). When it was time to leave after almost three hours, Brandon protested by sitting down in the zero entry side of the pool, shoving his hands in his laps and yelling, "No house!" I believe this was his way of saying that he didn't want to go home. ;)

Memorial Day Monday...

...a cookout to initiate our new table. Lots of meat, garlic bread, potato foil packs, fresh fruit, chocolate chip cookies and yummy drinks. Oh yeah... and family.

I'll let the pictures do the talking...

Lots of fun moments - lots of fun memories... and the best ending to it all. Lying next to Brandon in bed, cheek to cheek, and hearing him say, "Love you, Mommy."

Sleepy time...

An outdoors photo challenge...

Linking up for a photo challenge!

The Paper Mama Photo Challenge

Our favorite moment outside this past week...

This beautiful trail is located just a couple of blocks from our house... the perfect place to walk, run, hold hands, throw rocks into the river and watch for birds.

Lots of outside time this weekend! Happy Memorial Day!

School's Out for Summer!

Today was Jaden's LAST day of his first year of preschool. This first year as parents of a school-aged child flew by. I know it was just preschool... and I know it was just his first year of two years of preschool... but it's still a milestone reached. It's so hard to fathom that in just one more year Jaden will be a kindergartner, attending Kindergarten roundup, and Brandon will be starting HIS first year of preschool.

Jaden really enjoyed his experience this year, never didn't want to go to school on Tuesday and Thursday mornings, and I know he will be excited to go back this fall for three days a week instead of just two.

Some memories from this past school year:
...first invite to a non-family related birthday party.
...first two report cards.
...first parent-teacher conference.
...learned how to sign his name on cards and craft projects.
...learned many, many new songs.
...first Christmas concert.
...first field trips. (Eric Carle at Gallagher Bluedorn; Jack and the Beanstalk at the Black Hawk Children's Theater).
...first time on a school bus.
...first time acting out a story in front of a class. (He played a kitten and wore a costume.)
...first class picture.
...first "sharing" time and presentation... (sharing a poster about himself).
...showed lots of social development and really came out of his shell more and more throughout the year. Mrs. W. said she saw lots of growth in him from the beginning of the year to the end.

Congratulations buddy. We're so proud of you!
