S.U.M.M.E.R.

It's here.

Nothing kicks off summer like an annual small town celebration. When I told Jaden we were going to a parade on Saturday, he immediately had memories of last year's Sturgis Falls and couldn't wait to get going. Brandon had no clue what I was talking about, but he is always eager to go along for the ride.

Sauerkraut Days didn't disappoint. The weather was perfect, the entertainment fun, and the company... lovely.

Small town U.S.A.

(Photo courtesty of Cassi Ubben... who is always trying to catch me in some kind of moment).

We got to the parade route almost an hour before it started so we had plenty of time to figure out ways to keep the kids entertained. Jaden and Ella were near perfect - even with the questions of "how much longer?" every five minutes. With Brandon... we had to get creative...

With about 15 minutes left to go before start time, we had ourselves a meltdown. Luckily Papa Tim came to the rescue. After disappearing for about five minutes, he returned with hot dogs, chips and water to fill up little tummies. There's never a shortage of 'dogs' at Kraut Days! And once the parade started... so did the fun. Brandon was in awe the whole time, rarely speaking, often jumping at the loud noises the firetrucks made and quite content to stand by the curb and watch the action. Jaden quickly let his competitive nature take over and was more focused on catching all the candy that was being tossed out than anything else. And of course pausing every once in a while to try to open a candy wrapper by himself.

After the parade... time for rides. Tim has an apparent "IN" with a particular carnival worker and was able to score us unlimited ride tickets. First up...

Not so sure...

Ride #2 was a hit with all three. This was Brandon's first ever amusement ride, and it was so fun to watch him experience it.

These cars did nothing but whip around in a continuous circle for five minutes, but they went pretty fast. Brandon was giggling and smiling from ear to ear the entire time.

He was laughing so hard, his eyes were watering!

I guess after having so much fun on this ride, he thought he could be a little adventurous. Jaden decided to sit this one out, but our little dare devil wanted to try it with big cousin Ella. Anyone familiar with the Gallion ride at Adventureland? The boat swings back and forth and continues to go higher and faster. Picture that ride... in a miniature version... but still quite wild for someone Brandon's size...

This was his face right before the ride started...

Once the ride was in full swing... this face turned to tears, and the ride had to be stopped mid-way to let him off. Not quite ready for that one yet!

Next up, Jaden spotted the silly slide. Really tall and really fast... and a HUGE hit.

The gentleman working this post was so very nice. After seeing how much our kids loved it, he let us continue to ride it over and over again without even giving him any tickets. And our kids took full advantage of that... eventually we had to pull them away!

This kills me... he's so little!

Finally time for some food and music!

After some dancing... a few more attempts at rides and games... we called it a night. We didn't end up leaving until an hour after the boys are normally in bed and still had almost an hour drive home. It was a late one, but so much fun. This is what summer is for... longer days... stretching out evenings and watching the sun set on the way home from an adventure. Memory Made.

...What else says 'Summer'?...

...new seasonal Wallflowers from Bath and Bodyworks...

...a shiny new and incredbly bouncy ball...

...putting out the Red, White and Blue decor... just one more month until fireworks, a week of PTO and Adventureland!

...bubble wands and bikes...

...and dinner on the deck... a yummy and freshly made taco salad...

Another busy and fun weekend in the books. These two keep us on our toes, keep life exciting... and make me feel like a kid again. Sweet dreams!
