Vacation Week Wrap-up

Tomorrow I return to work after nine days of nothing but mommy-hood. I had big plans for this week of "vacation" -- and followed through on almost all of them. Something that's hard to do most of the time with a four year and a two year old. We had lots of fun, created lots of new memories, let the sun bronze up our skin a little bit, had a few trying moments... and soaked up lots of time together...

...And evidence of it all... is how tired we all are tonight!

As grateful as I am for this time at home (and on the road) with my little ones, I am ready to return to our normal routines of every day life. Because really... it's a pretty good life. And I'm feeling blessed this Sunday evening that I don't have to dread the first Monday morning back to work. But instead... I get to embrace it.

A recap of our week in pictures and a few words...

...Brandon fell in love with an old doll...

...we spent an evening at the new Amphitheatre and splash pad in downtown Waterloo...

...we baked 4th of July cookies...

...and practiced our "ballet" moves...

...we played with our brand new (to us) basketball hoop...

...and took the boys to their very first amusement park...

...we celebrated my dad's 4th of July birthday with family and food and air conditioning...

...we took a road trip to Iowa City to visit very special friends...

...and created our own "water park" in our yard by filling up the water table, filling up our pool and running the sprinkler...

...(Cody put his duck decoys in the pool with the boys, and they pretended they were swimming in the river with real ducks!)...

...we tried out a new and AWESOME recipe... Cajun Chicken Alfredo... so excited for the leftovers!

...and we kept the boys up way past their bed times to attend our town's Fireworks Extravaganza...

...where we got to see some animals and drink some of those famous $6.00 strawberry smoothies...

...Jaden's reaction to the fireworks? "Maybe God's doing that!"

...to culminate the week... we attended the Ubben family reunion at the campgrounds in Ackley... where Jaden couldn't get enough of the lemonade and Brandon couldn't get enough of the swings and "space ship."

...all of this as well as trips to the library and bookstore, shopping for new dining table decor at Target, many trips to the pool with our summer passes... and more.

Mama's beat and is looking forward to a Dairy Queen blizzard and a good night's sleep tonight. :)
