Water Babies

There seemed to be a dominating theme this weekend.

Water.

Our kids can't get enough of it. And it's a good thing because with 100-degree like temperatures for several days running now, there really isn't much else to do but jump in a large pool of it. Thank goodness (and thanks Papa and Nana) for season pool passes. We're definitely getting the money's worth out of those things.

We love The Falls. And the more we go, the more our littles are becoming comfortable in the water. Brandon is tall enough this summer to be able to go the whole length of the zero entry pool without fear of him not being able to touch the bottom. This makes it a little more relaxing for Mommy and Daddy. ;)

And Jaden has made a pool buddy. When we went swimming after supper a couple of nights ago, he started swimming around with another boy maybe a year or two older than him. When we went back to the pool on Saturday, that same boy was there. And they picked off right where they left off.

While Daddy and Brandon work on splashing each other, Mommy's actually gotten to take a spin around the lazy river and a zip down the water slides a few times. ;) Yes... I really am still a kid at heart.

Besides spending time at the pool, we checked out our town's new splash pad on Saturday evening. Located in downtown Waterloo, the Riverloop Ampitheatre had its opening ribbon cutting on Friday, and after just one visit on its very first night... we are impressed.

With a stage shelter, stadium seating, vendors, yummy food, good music, a splash pad and playground area... the best thing about this new attraction... is the view. And they aren't even finished with it yet. They are going to be putting in boat docks along the water here with plans to revive recreational boating on this part of the river. The farm crisis in the 80's and John Deere having to lay off thousands of workers caused this area to die out for quite a while. We're excited to watch it slowly come back to life. So far... so good.

The boys loved the splash pad and playground area, and Jaden once again made himself some friends. He ending up playing tag with two boys, and he and Brandon both rode home in the car soaking wet from running through the water.

And on the way to and from? A stop at the fountain outside the Youth Pavillion...

What else did this weekend bring?

...Saturday morning doughnuts and Sunday pizza at The O.P...

...Jaden "helping" me grocery shop and Brandon "helping" me clean the bathroom...

...my couch, a Dairy Queen Peppermint Oreo blizzard in hand and the Real Housewives of Orange County season finale on the DVR...

...and Brandon's new found love of one of my old dolls...

My mom watched the boys at her house one day this past week, and Brandon found this old UNI Cheerleading ragdoll that was mine when I was his age. He immediately took a liking to it and now carries it around with him and is very protective of her. It's really very sweet to watch. He actually shared his binky with her, and he even pretended to change her diaper once, grabbing a tissue to use as he wiped her bottom. ;) The doll... and this flag... now go to bed with him every night. I have no idea where these little obsessions come from... but I'm sure glad he's picked the right team.

Lots more to come...

...Planning to try out every color this week. Stay tuned... :)
