More from Memorial Weekend

We played with our new (to us) dirt digger, did play-doh on the deck while getting ready for a picnic and watched Daddy and Papa Tim fine tune the boat motor for our first cruise out on the lake.

Packed up the picnic basket for the first time this year, gathered the entire family around the picnic tables at Big Woods and spent a few hours taking turns on the boat. After eating of course.

The first time out on the water was interesting. Both boys feared the boat tipping over, and the dark skies overhead looked stormy enough to make us cut our journey short. But by the end, the boys were ready to do it again and I'm excited to get them more used to the feel of the water beneath them as the boat rocks to the waves. And those dark skies never did produce any rain.

We spent the rest of the afternoon helping others on and off the boat, skipping rocks and picking flowers, playing catch and practicing with our fishing poles. These boys of ours are so content around the water.

And Daddy spent a good portion of the afternoon trying to catch a snake by hand that kept swimming after Brandon's fishing line.

Sunday night was for fires and a backyard game of baseball and s'mores.

Memorial Day Monday we hosted a cookout at our house. Lots of meat and desserts, a water balloon fight and hours in the sprinkler for the kids. Just as Memorial Day should be.

It was like Hunger Game. "Ready... set... go!"

A kid's table, bomb pops and red and blue Kool-Aid.

A full and fun holiday weekend in the summertime. And three months more of it ahead.
