our goodbye to summer

With both boys starting school this week, we officially said goodbye to our summer last week with some special outings, a fun road trip and a whole lot of quality time. (Of course this week the heat index continues to rise and it feels more like the middle of July than the start of football season. It never fails!) I took some time away from work, pulled the boys out of daycare and planned to cross things off our summer bucket list that we just hadn't found time to work in quite yet. It was the perfect way to wrap up a summer full of memories and a great send off to another year ahead of us. We had a lot of fun together, and we all crashed on Sunday night when it was all over with.

Our activities included small things. Cinnamon rolls for breakfast, afternoon movies after rain showers, hair cuts and a couple of visits up to campus to watch the Panther football team practice. Shopping trips for new school clothes and football jerseys, a Saturday night dinner out followed by a night under the lights at the soccer game and playing catch with T.C. in the parking lot. Sunday lunch at the O.P. after church, new backsplash tile in the kitchen and meeting Jaden's 1st grade teacher, Mrs. McCready. One final visit to the Falls pool on its last open day. Jaden of course chose the very last day of summer to want to try all the big water slides. Better late than never. He loved them, and now we'll be even more excited for next pool season. We packed it all in and that was just the small stuff. We spent a day and night at Adventureland, checked out the beach for the first time and drove to Waverly to visit Kid's Kingdom, my very favorite playground from when I was a kid. It's safe to say we'll be going back. We could have spent hours here if the rain clouds hadn't pushed us away.

Too many pictures to include them all in one post... but here are some images from our morning at the park.

With so many unique activities and places to hide and so much to explore, this old wooden park is a kid's dream. I have so many memories of this place from my days in daycare when we would drive out here and spend a whole afternoon playing and snacking at the nearby picnic tables. It was really surreal to revisit it after all these years and watch my own kids appreciate it for the first time. They can't wait to go back with Daddy.

I just love these images... older brother helping younger brother!

His favorite part of every park, aside from the swings, is always the monkey bars...

Stay tuned for more...
