"a portrait of each of my children, once each week, in 2014"
Jaden: We've started flag football and heading into the first game this weekend, he's the quarterback. The coaches have told him he will have the opportunity to play other positions later in the season, but right now they are trying to keep positions consistent while the kids work on learning all the plays. He is so hard on himself and was upset at the end of practice last night after he missed a tackle. (Which of course in flag football means that he missed pulling the flag off the opponent's waste). It was actually his first play on defense, as for the first couple of practices they've had him solely at QB. I eventually was able to cheer him up by telling him how even college players aren't perfect and that the UNI kicker actually had to make a tackle this past weekend because all of the other Panther defenders missed pulling the Iowa runner down. To which Jaden replied, "Huh. So THAT'S why even the kickers have to wear shoulder pads." Yup... you got it, bud.
Brandon: He's been my little sidekick lately. The older Jaden gets, the more time he wants to spend with Daddy. So while Jaden was off a lot this weekend with Cody helping Cody's boss with his backyard landscape, Brandon and I had a lot of one-on-one time. We picked out mums and decorated our deck for Fall, we made cookies together and shopped at Bath & Body works for new wallflowers, candles and soaps. He's a great scent tester and I love our little "dates" we get to have. You know... while he's still young enough and I'm still cool enough for him to want to hang out with. ;)
