Football Saturday, Sunday Funday

"This strangely still pause between summer and autumn, greenery and gold, and the heat and rising wind that is once again readying itself to rush it all away in a climactic symphony of color and scent is - in my opinion, one of the best parts about living on earth."
-Victoria Erickson

Cody's dad always says that people live in Iowa for its Septembers. I think I have to agree with him. We're kind of getting the best of both worlds right now. We can leave the house without winter coats but still bundle up cozy in comfy sweatshirts and warm ourselves with coffee and ciders. We can play outside and enjoy nature without sweating, while looking to spot those first changing leaves on our trees. Open our windows to let in the crisp air and turn our heat on when we're ready to tuck ourselves in at night. There's plenty of fun activities to keep us busy but also plenty of reasons to sit around lazy-like with a good book and a fuzzy blanket on. And oh, the smells. Depending on what room of our house we're in or what's baking in the oven, there's always a sweet aroma happening. Pumpkin Pecan Waffles in the basement and kitchen, pumpkin cupcake in the bathroom and my office, Vanilla Pumpkin Marshmallow in the living room and my favorite leaves-scented owl candle lit for extra goodness when I'm baking in the oven.
It's all good right now, but it's also going incredibly fast. Here we are over half-way through September already and my mind is racing as fast the season is. We have so much to do and so many plans and it's a little overwhelming to think about some of the uncertainty that lies ahead for us. Which is why I'm trying really hard to enjoy where we're at now because life will change just as the seasons do, and I don't want to miss out on any of today's good while planning for tomorrow. One day at a time. And lots of prayers to the One who has it all planned out for us better than I ever could.
This weekend...
We filled Saturday up with football and a baby shower. Jaden had team pictures in the morning and then his own football game against the little 49ers. He played well, and his whole team improved greatly from their first game. Our Texans ended up winning in a nail-biter. ;) And Jaden pulled three flags on the opening series to stop their first attempted scoring drive!

Our very own boys of fall...

Cody got stung by a bee for the first time, Brandon cheered from the sidelines and Jaden connected on a throw to his receiver to set up a Texans score. We have so much fun watching this team of ours.

Right after the game, Deanne and I hosted a baby shower for Cassi. Little baby Price is going to be making her way into this world in about two months already. We had guests write messages on diapers, I got to feel my baby niece kick for the first time and when it was all over with, we brought the boys over for supper, movies and the Iowa/Iowa State game with Ella.

After staying up way too late to watch the UNI game from Hawaii on Saturday night, we kept it lazy Sunday morning. The boys stayed in pajamas until noon and played in the basement all morning long without fighting! I made cinnamon rolls at 11:00, lunch at 1:00, and we were in absolutely no hurry to do anything. It was wonderful.

We turned on Pandora, lit my favorite candle and lost ourselves in some crafting, making Autumn trees out of wine corks and paints.

We watched more football, shot hoops outside, visited Daddy and Greg and the new kittens at the shop, helped fill wheel barrows with broken up stone, ventured to a new park, and lost a football in the trees. It was a good Sunday.

Looking forward to Oktoberfest, Homecoming festivities and a fall festival all this week!
