"a portrait of each of my children, once each week, in 2015"

Jaden: He drove his first go-kart all by himself this weekend at Palmer's, and we had a hard time getting any kind of reaction out of him. He was excited to do it, but in usual Jaden style, a little timid during the experience, and afterwards cared more about getting on the Palmer's basketball court than repeating the experience with more go-kart tickets. In fact, the whole time we were there he was most concerned with the free basketball court in his presence, and Cody and I joked that the next time we go we can just send him over to the hoop and save some money by only buying tickets for Brandon!

Brandon: We had such a fun time at the pool this weekend. This was surprisingly the first time that Daddy has joined us this summer, as our usual pool nights are taken when Daddy has to work late, and our Sundays at the pool are the hours during the weekend that Daddy usually tries to catch up on paperwork in the office. Brandon was thrilled to have Cody along with us this time, and used it to his full advantage. We spent most of our day in the deepest part of the big pool, watching the kids do flips off the high-dive, Brandon jumping into Cody's arms over and over again for hours at a time, while Jaden did cannon balls right beside them. Brandon's becoming quite the swimmer, able to do the breast stroke or front crawl for some pretty long distances all by himself, but the finale came when he finally agreed to come down the water slides with me and Jaden before we left for the day. He was a little nervous, asking about a thousand questions as we waited in line and gradually climbed higher up the steps to the top. He waved proudly at Daddy below right before we sat down in our double tube, was quiet the whole way down, and then was thrown from the tube as soon as we hit the water at the bottom. Daddy, being the protective papa bear that he is, paid no concern to the lifeguard standing there available for help, and jumped into the landing pool as soon as we hit in order to catch Brandon as he flew off the tube. I don't know who was more surprised - the lifeguard or me! And Brandon? He LOVED it. He said it tickled his tummy at the bottom, and that we have to go at least once every time we visit the pool from now on. We were so proud of his bravery that we treated us all to ice cream sandwiches at the snack bar before heading home. :)
