...more stars and stripes

On Sunday evening of our 4th of July weekend - after spending several hours at the park playing baseball and eating pizza with friends, the Wyant's asked us to come over for an impromptu night around the fire.

I said of course - noting that we wouldn't stay long since the boys had already been up much past their bedtimes the previous two nights - but who was I kidding?

We love the Wyant's and our growing friendship with them. They live just up the road from us, Cody and Brad couldn't be more alike, Malea is one of the most genuinely nice people I've come to know, and they have three boys around the same ages as Jaden and Brandon. Corbin and Jaden are in the same class at school, Brandon and Carsten are just a year apart and asked to be on the same baseball team later this summer, and little Cailor is such a cutie. And one of the best parts about being their friends? (At least for Brandon). The baby bunnies you get to cuddle when you visit their house!

We loved on those bunnies and played basketball in the driveway for quite a while - until we started recognizing the people in the backyard next door. Turns out that Jaden's beloved Sunday school teacher has relatives that live right next to Brad and Malea and they were setting off another round of backyard fireworks that night. We all wandered over there with one very large line of lawn chairs filled with tons of little kids and enjoyed our third night of fireworks before gathering around the fire for another night of s'mores and another night of jumping on a trampoline. Our plans to stay for only an hour or so turned into not getting home until midnight. :)

July 4th itself was a slow and leisurely day. Our plans for boating got cancelled with the river being so high and the temperatures being so cool so we all gathered at the beach instead - without the boats. We packed grills, snacks, drinks, stuck our toes in the sand for a couple of hours and ate hot dogs right by the water.

Our beach day... in pictures.

Ella and Brandon even caught a fish in their little net!

After a day at the beach, we gathered at our house for my dad's 4th of July birthday. We played with red, white and blue bubble wands, did a few more sparklers and enjoyed a picture-perfect July night. The world sounded so quiet since most of the partying and fireworks had happened the previous three nights, and I was so thankful to be looking ahead to more days off work and some time to unwind from all the excitement.

We've had a lot of really great 4th's but this weekend had to be the best one yet. We had so much fun.

Our days of pictures with little kids holding little American flags might be about over. This was the only one I got of the two of them all weekend. Brandon's goofy personality. Jaden's impersonation of the "Duck Face." I wouldn't trade them in for anything.

And now that the 4th has come and gone... bring on DISNEY!!
