UNI Homecoming and a Parade
Thanks to his 42 years of volunteer service as UNI's public address announcer for football and men's basketball games, as well as his years spent fundraising to build the UNI-Dome back in the early days before he met my mom and before "Heeerrrreeee Come the Panthers!" was part of his routine vocabulary, my dad was bestowed the honor this year of serving as Grand Marshall for UNI's Homecoming festivities.
And because he has just as much pride and joy in his grandkids as he does in his alma mater, the boys got to ride along with him. They are eight and six and have already ridden in grand marshall vehicles for both the Sturgis Falls parade and the UNI Homecoming parade. Needless to say, they have their parade waves down pat. ;)
(When TC has been your best bud since you were in diapers, you get running hugs from a distance.) ;)
It was such a full day. It started with a very early basketball practice for Jaden before we met at the parade route and ended with a big win for our football team and a sleepover at Papa Tim and Nana Deanne's house for the boys that night. In between was parade candy, tailgate food and a beautiful early October Saturday spent doing some of our favorite things.
Dad was surprised with gifts from the Homecoming committee, and we were all surprised to find my Uncle Bud wearing Panther clothes along the parade route instead of Hawkeye colors! ;)
Always thankful for this university and community that has given our family so much.
