"a portrait of each of my children, once each week, in 2017"

Jaden: You had a lot of fun at Hick's Place this week - shooting bow and arrows at fake alligators, playing laser tag in the woods and catching fish from the pond. It's hard to believe that there's just two weeks left of day camp this summer, and the jury is still out on just how many more summers of daycare we're going to have with you. Your daycare years might be drawing to a close pretty soon. How is that possible?!

Brandon: You have your first baseball game next week, but after two weeks of practices, we've had to work on your attitude a little bit! There are a couple of girls on your team, and you feel as though they are cramping your style and you keep wishing you could be on an all-boy team! I keep telling you that the girls deserve to play, too, but that if you stick with it for one more year, you'll get to be with all boys next summer. ;) We toured your new school this week and all fell in love with it. You are most excited about having your very own iPad in your classroom - and about the library center with its cozy bean bag loft you can sit in as a special reward. :)

A Day at Lost Island

The boys and I had fun extending our 4th of July holiday a few weeks ago, visiting Lost Island Waterpark the day after the 4th - when everyone else had gone back to work! We hadn't been to this gem located just 15 minutes from home for a couple of years, and Brandon barely remembered his first visit (nor was he tall enough to ride the water coaster back then) - so it was almost like a brand new experience for us all over again.

And we had so much fun! We arrived to the gates for park opening and didn't walk back out again until almost supper time, making it a very full day and the perfect way to round up our amazing July staycation. I am of the belief that while it is awesome to travel far from home, you can have a lot of fun and enjoyment in your own backyard, too, and these five days with them was such a treat.

Unlike a couple of years ago, Brandon was tall enough to do almost everything, and seeing as how he's our brave one, he was up for everything, too! Jaden, our much more timid and cautious child, would have been happy to start our morning off at the wave pool, but Brandon and I dragged him to the back of the park to ride that awesome Water Coaster right off the bat! Jaden was a nervous wreck as we climbed aboard our raft, almost in tears as we approached the top... but as soon as our ride came to a stop, he was ready to do it again. And again and again and again!

We had so much fun going on water slide after water slide, our favorites being the family raft ride and that fun coaster, while Brandon also loved racing us down the tummy slides, and Jaden loved the tube ride that allowed you to select your own music to listen to the whole way down! It was a like a disco in that slide!

We also spent plenty of time riding the big waves in our inner tubes, and I was one exhausted Mama by the end of the day. Even though Brandon was tall enough to ride everything, he wasn't tall enough to ride in his own tube on anything, which meant Mommy was tasked with carrying those big double tubes up all those flights of stairs over and over again all day long. ;) But I wouldn't have traded it - it was so fun to experience his first water ride thrills ride alongside him as we shared those tubes together all day long.

Looking forward to some more water rides and roller coasters in our near future before summer's up!

"a portrait of each of my children, once each week, in 2017"

Jaden: You loved Uncle James's soccer/swim camp last week, scoring numerous goals and telling me that you want to start playing yet ANOTHER sport. I had to finally say no to you and tell you that unless you wanted to give up football (which was an adamant NO), soccer just wasn't in the cards for you. You wear me out!

Brandon: Last week was a big week for you! You took and passed the big swimming test at The Falls, now allowing you to have your run of the place - and go down that awesome Drop Slide! And... you attended your first week-long soccer/swim camp, too, where you played soccer all morning and swam all afternoon. All of that in addition to starting your baseball season, and you've been a sleepy, busy, but happy boy!

Our 4th of July // 2017 // Part 3

Finally getting around to sharing images of the final chapter of our 4th of July.

On the 4th itself, my dad turned 70. And we threw a bit of a shindig. So we spent our holiday baking cakes, decorating tables, crafting American flags, filling water balloons... and then welcoming our families over for one heck of a party. We celebrated until dark , and our first holiday in our new home was a huge success.

Our day, mostly in pictures.

Dad's birthday gift from us - our Disney picture photo book, finally completed. It was fun to look back on our trip of 10 months ago as we start thinking and planning ahead to our next visit already!

Water balloons, smoke bombs, sparklers... and red, white and blue confetti littered our yard, and we're still finding traces of it all. (Especially the confetti). ;) We have the perfect backyard for a big party, and we took full advantage.

It was a good day, a full and fun extended weekend... and we weren't quite done yet. We still had a waterpark to get to the next day!
