Christmas Eve - one of my favorite days and nights of the year - came and went this year with gorgeous weather (for December!), a little girl in a beautiful white dress, and two growing boys that had a lot of fun helping Santa do his thing. ;)
Our Christmas Eve morning started quietly and peacefully. While waiting for the rest of the house to wake up, Kaitlyn and I had a little lemonade party in her bedroom, and I felt so happy and peaceful playing pretend with my girl in her pretty pink bedroom. I always envisioned these moments with a daughter, and we had such a nice morning together. :)
Then, we set the table, started the cinnamon rolls, and read some Christmas books by the tree!
Strawberries, bananas, cinnamon rolls, and chocolate milk have become our yearly Christmas Eve breakfast tradition, and the boys love it! It's the only time of the year I really set the table, and even the men of the house seem to appreciate the extra gesture.
The rest of the day went slow and easy. We made sure Kaitlyn got in a good nap and switched up our church routine - navigating away from the later 5:00 service time and attending the 3:00 candelight service instead. I loved doing it this way, as it allowed for a more relaxed and less-rushed evening. We were able to take pictures outside to show off Kaitlyn's beautiful white and gold dress, and church went off without a hitch! Kaitlyn attended nursery until it was time to light the candles, and then she looked extra gorgeous as we had her join us for Silent Night... with the glow of the candles illuminating her curious blue eyes.
After church my parents joined us for soup and bread - another Christmas Even tradition - and some Jesus birthday cake, too! Kaitlyn soaked up all of the attention all night long before cuddling with mama for The Night Before Christmas and then crashing into her bed. And then Santa and the elves got to work! Santa loved having extra help this year, and the elves took great pride in helping to set the scene just right for Christmas morning.
The very same book Mama read as a little girl...
All is calm... until morning... ;)
