Happy 1-1, buddy! Another year older -- and continuing to get smarter and cooler with every passing day. It's hard to believe that it's been 11 full years since your somewhat dramatic entry into the world. You were born quickly - just a couple of hours after arriving to the hospital thanks to your elevated heart rate and unnatural birthing position -- and you've been keeping us on our toes ever since! I love that you don't conform to the ways of the world but have always seemed determined to chart your own path - and with confidence. You are such a sweet mix of your dad and me. You have your dad's artsy, creative side -- and you definitely got your love of Star Wars from him. Your desire to be out in nature and learn about the world comes from both of us - as does your extreme stubbornness. ;) Your love of Disney and 90's tv sitcoms and inner need to just have alone time once in a while -- you definitely got from me. :)
This past year we have seen you enter new chapters, try new things and grow new friendships - all things not easy to do in the midst of a global pandemic. You showed your bravery and will and determination by being one of just three 5th graders on a mostly 6th grade tackle football team. You were asked to be in the Exceptional Learning Program within our school district - and happily accepted that invite, more than ready and eager to take on extra responsibility and work at school. And just this past weekend you had your first sleepover with your best friends - both of whom also have March birthdays. It's like it was meant to be! You continue to expand your Star Wars collection in your bedroom and are already deliberately saving your pennies for our next Disney World trip. You continue to love your sissy well - and may be even a pickier eater than I was at your age. (I grew out of that so there's hope for you, too!) Your teachers still rave about you just like they always have -- and they always notice the most important things. How you treat others. And how you are an example to other students in regards to what kindness and inclusion and leadership should look like.
Brandon, our family is so lucky to have you. You bless those around you every day, but my favorite thing about you how is you never want any child or student or teammate to feel left out, marginalized or lonely. I have zero doubt that you are going places. That you will find a way to make your dreams a reality and that you will bring others around you along for the ride. And I can't wait for that future home you promise to design and build for me, too. ;)
There's so much to look forward to - more Star Wars Legos to build, more Disney trips to take, and your future is in His hands. I know He has the greatest plans for you, and I trust that you will make the most of all of your talents and gifts because that's just who you are.
Love you so much, buddy! Happy birthday!
