During our week before school starting, we took a little two-day getaway to Des Moines. Wanting to stick close to home most of the summer, we hadn't really gotten away as a family yet, and all it takes for the boys is a night's stay in a hotel room and a swim in a hotel pool to make them happy. Plus, Brandon had been craving a roller coaster ride all summer long.
We started our getaway at Adventureland and spent an entire Sunday riding the rides - and the waves - in the park.
Jaden remains our fearful and timid one - we never did get him on a roller coaster - but Brandon loved it all.
The Falling Star became a new favorite for Brandon and myself, while Jaden and Cody barely made it through it. ;)
Jaden's favorite ride was the Raging River - even though that had the longest line the whole day.
Brandon and Cody braved the Tornado, we all had fun on the Outlaw together... but nobody would join me on the ferris wheel!
We also spent a couple of hours in the water park where Brandon surprised us all by mastering the big drop slide that he technically wasn't even tall enough to go down! He was so determined to try it that Cody walked with him to the very top of the slide while I stood below on the lookout. I was positive the lifeguard would turn him away, but before I knew it Brandon was zipping down that thing!
We ended the night swimming in both of the indoor hotel pools and eating at the really nice new sports bar within the Adventureland Inn - we even got to see some of Shaq's actual basketball shoes. ;)
