Summer's End

We're knee deep in Fall over here. 20+ pumpkins have been carefully placed throughout the house, Salted Caramel Mochas are back on the menu, Fall candles are being lit every night... and warm blankets have been draped across the backs of reading chairs. There's a football weekend ahead, apple picking in the near future and the first batch of chocolate chip pumpkin bread has already been made and devoured. It feels good.

But before this blog fills with images of Autumn, I need to wrap up our final moments of summer. I took the boys' last week of summer off of work, and we spent some good quality time together. We mixed it up with new and unique activities every day, spent a night in a hotel, and focused on everything other than work emails and to-do's.

Our final summer season days... mostly in pictures.

//We spent a morning at the boys' new school playground. Not just new to them - but new to the school, too! Brandon gave his stamp of approval and had a blast pretending to be a Ninja Warrior on all the new equipment.

//We went back to school shoe shopping, got fresh hair cuts and visited UNI football practice one morning. Always grateful for the opportunities provided to us in this college town.

//We explored nature, had fun on this suspension bridge and watched Brandon play his final baseball game of the year.

//We spent an afternoon in Grundy Center splashing and sliding and jumping around in a different pool than the one we regularly visit. Only 30 minutes away and $3 per person, this pool will be one we will visit every summer just for something different. Brandon was half an inch too short for the big water slides this year, which seems a little silly considering he conquered the huge drop slide at the water park just a few days later...

//We visited the new downtown arcade, grabbed some books and movies from the library and stopped at Scratch for some afternoon cupcakes.

//And we of course went back to the Falls for one last swim, one last jump off the high-dive and one last float around the lazy river. Until next year...

More to come...
