Hello, May

We have finally hit the sweet spot. It's May, the weather finally turned for the better, our grass is beautifully green, the pink flowers are budding all over the place, and we have nothing ahead of us but weddings and summer holidays... and oh yes... a baby. ;) Although Cody's work schedule and stress has increased, my work load has decreased considerably, and I've been enjoying a slower pace, spending some of my working hours outside or inside with the windows open and the birds singing. Baby birds hatched in the wreath on our front door, and we're enjoying watching them grow and watching their mama bird take such good care of them. The boys go to bed extra sleepy every night, thanks to fresh air and open bedroom windows... and there have been hints of pink cheeks and sunburned foreheads. We have completed the bulk of our basement bedroom construction and plan on having Jaden moved out of his current room within the next week, which means my plans for baby girl's room get to finally take shape very soon. I'm getting anxious to wash her clothes and blanket, hang them in her closet, set up the crib and finally place her beautiful bedding on her mattress. May... you can stick around for a while.

We had a beautiful first weekend this past week. We enjoyed a Friday night picnic in one of our favorite water spots and watched as Jaden and Brandon transformed themselves into Army snipers after finding a couple of thick gun-like branches. They entertained themselves for quite some time while Cody and I sat on the nearby picnic table and watched the sun drip lower into the sky. On Saturday morning we headed out to Cody's open house at his nursery, picking out flowers, a raspberry bush and a new tree for our backyard. The bulk of Saturday was spent digging the hole for the egress window installation taking place this upcoming weekend, welcoming neighbors into our backyard and going out for a late 8:00 supper after Cody had wrapped up yard work for the day. On Sunday I went to breakfast with my best friend from college, Kelly, who also is pregnant and due just a week before I am with her first baby boy. We sat together for two hours over coffee, eggs and pancakes... and then I headed home to join the boys for afternoon ice cream and an impromptu stop downtown to enjoy the car show. (Jaden was in heaven). Our weekend ended Sunday night with an outdoor feast, as we invited James and Ivy over for grilled supper and play while Cassi was out of town for work. It was a full, exhausting weekend that also included popsicles and ice cream sandwiches and dirty feet and late bedtimes. And we're looking forward to a lot more summer-like activities ahead.
