"a portrait of each of my children, once each week, in 2018"
Jaden: We traveled all the way to the Quad Cities last week and brought home the championship! Game two was a close one, and you helped seal the three-point win with some free throws. You and your teammates then competed in a two-day tourney at UNI this past weekend and came up one point short on day two, but it's possible we've never been prouder of you and your squad. You especially played your heart out during the second day, and it was a thrill to watch you step it up. You boys had to face some adversity caused by the spectators of the other team and you all kept your cool, your confidence and your poise. Sports teaches so many great lessons. I'm so glad you have this opportunity at such a high level!
Brandon: With Jaden getting older and Kaitlyn still too young, you are the keeper of our "Advent" calendar this year. You were so excited to start what you refer to as "the countdown" and love to place a new person or animal near the manger every night before bed - every night, getting one step closer to the arrival of baby Jesus. I'm excited to watch you pass the torch on to Kaitlyn in a year or two. This small little part of our yearly December traditions has been something you have fully embraced since you were a toddler, and I know you're going to love teaching Kaitlyn all about it.
Kaitlyn: You just love your Sophie the giraffe! It's the only toy that goes into your mouth just how you want it, and the minute I flash it in front of your face, your two little hands reach out for it and pull it close. Dragging a baby around to all of these sports things adds a layer of exhaustion and stress, but you are an angel through all of it. You go with the flow, charm everyone you meet, and you make the perfect little side-kick for Mommy. I just love you.
