Christmas Day 2018

We didn't leave our house on Christmas day, and it was wonderful. Having spent many years packing up our vehicle and trucking our kids to everyone else's homes, we've been grateful the last two years to be able to host everything in our own living room. We've developed a nice routine to our day. A special but easy breakfast - this year it included donuts and and rolls, opening Santa's presents only with just the five of us, and then spending a couple of hours playing with our first gifts while waiting for my mom and dad to arrive. They bring more food and a whole u-haul full of gifts, the kids get to open all of their presents from us, and then we take turns opening each gift from Nana and Papa one by one by one. Then the rest of the day is spent playing and eating. Cody smoked some meat for our Christmas night dinner, and I don't think any of the three kids changed out of their pajamas.

This Christmas, Brandon and Kaitlyn were the first to awake. I went out to the living room with them while we let Daddy and Jaden sleep in a bit. Brandon put some finishing touches on a present he wrapped for Papa Bob, and even Kaitlyn seemed to know there was something special about to start. We eventually got impatient and forced Jaden and Daddy to wake up so we could start opening some gifts! ;)

I was so proud of the boys this year, as they were less excited about presents, and more eager for the long break from school and time spent with family. But finding the perfect gifts for them brings me a lot of joy, and I love spoiling them a bit on Christmas day. And I don't think anyone was disappointed. ;) Favorites included large Pottery Barn murals for both of the boys' rooms from Nana and Papa, a new Nintendo Switch and games to go with it, and some fun girly toys for Kaitlyn. Of course she's now my favorite person to shop for, and I had so much fun picking out her Minnie Mouse jumperoo, her first set of bath toys, a piggy bank perfect for her bedroom, and her very first baby doll. I've waited my whole life to buy my own daughter her first baby doll.

Santa also did good! ;) Some baby-safe nail polish for Kaitlyn's stocking, an architecture design kit for Brandon, and a gaming headset for Jaden... to name a few things.

Our easy day... in pictures.
