A Spring Sports Update
Spring was an absolute whirlwind, especially considering the fact that Brandon started and finished his two-month track season, and Jaden's basketball season extended far into it. Really, there is no off season for basketball anymore. ;)
Brandon had track practice two nights a week from April through May and competed in two local meets. He once again competed as a sprinter and tried a couple of field events, and he didn't compete in a single event that he didn't place as a top finisher, earning a ribbon or medal in every event he was registered for.
Unfortunately I only have pictures from one of the meets since I had to travel to California for his first meet of the season. Cody was able to send me videos so I could watch his races, but I hate missing anything these kids are involved in! Also - the weather was not great for either meet - cold and windy - even in the last half of May!
Brandon competed in the 100, 200 and 4x100 relay events at each meet - as well as in the long jump. Sprints are his favorites, and even though they never practiced the relay during practice time, he did pretty darn good with that baton in his hand!
I think the cold weather and the long waits in between his running events put a little bit of a damper on his season, and he's not sure he wants to try running again next year. He's actually looking to get back into baseball again! But I was proud of him for sticking to his commitment and always giving it 100%. He even ran home from practices some nights. ;)
Jaden's basketball season with Martin Brothers has been up and down and all over the place, and we are learning A LOT through this process. I think God puts us in situations sometimes to force us to grow, re-evaluate, change perspectives, work harder for what we want. Jaden is learning those lessons right alongside Cody and I right now, and we have a lot of decisions to make moving forward, but one thing has not changed at all. This kid right here loves the sport of basketball.
The boys competed in a two-day tournament in Hiawatha earlier this spring and came home with the championship. They beat their local rival - the Iowa Barnstormers - twice that weekend so there was a lot of pride bringing home the hardware.
A few more basketball stories yet to share - one final tournament still to be played - and a football season that looms closer and closer. Mama's ready for football.
