Kaitlyn || ONE YEAR!!

Whew! What a week it has been. We are now on the other side of celebrating this girl's first birthday - a celebration that included a family day and night, a big birthday party, a daycare birthday party - and a rough one year doctor's appointment - and now it's time to post her last monthly update! I wasn't sure when I started these monthly posts if I would be able to stick with it and stay consistent, mostly questioning whether she would actually cooperate for a monthly picture with our letter board every month - and I'm proud to say we did it! Although this month's pictures with the letter board were a bit more difficult. Evidence below. ;)

Baby girl has seen so much growth and development since my 11 month post! She finally started crawling right at 11 months and became quite speedy with it. She started pulling herself up to standing utilizing any and all furniture around her - including standing inside her crib - and the last few days has taken a step or two here and there unassisted. I didn't think I'd be ready for her to walk, but we are getting excited for it now. I'm hoping she's walking by the end of summer so when the weather cools and it gets more comfortable outside, we can take her out in the backyard and to the park and our favorite bike trails to let her wander and explore a bit on her own two feet. Plus we can tell that she's getting anxious for it herself. When at her cousins' house the other night, all four of the bigger kids were running around playing and she was trying so hard to keep up!

We started real milk the night before her first birthday, and she's not doing great drinking it all by itself out of her sippy cup yet, but she is drinking it when we mix it in with some formula in her bottle. We're going to be gradually decreasing the amount of formula bit by bit until she's used to the taste of milk by itself. I won't be sad to stop buying formula completely. ;)

We're figuring out her favorite foods and getting into a better rhythm with her table food eating. She loves: pizza, goulash, mac and cheese, scrambled eggs, deli turkey, cheese, raspberries, bananas, oranges, peaches. She will tolerate broccoli, but we tend to give her one vegetable/fruit squeezy packet a day to ensure she gets her vegetables in her. As long as her vegetables are mixed in with fruit and grains she eats them just fine. Funny girl loves pureed sweet potatoes but won't eat them cooked! We've also started giving her diluted juice in her sippy cups in between meals - during snack times or when coming in from outside. She also loves just plain ice water when really thirsty.

Nap and bedtimes are pretty easy with her. When she's tired, she welcomes her crib and immediately will roll over onto her belly the minute we lay her down. We've started letting her sleep with a little cuddle buddy, but we are holding off on giving her a blanket in bed until she's 18 months - just to be extra careful. She does love to snuggle with blankets outside of her crib, and if we lay one on the floor for her, she nuzzles her face into it and immediately calms down.

She's continuing to wave at people all the time, still loves to clap, and says random words here and there but isn't talking much yet. Her favorite and most frequently repeated word is acky. She's got that one down solid. ;)

She's not big on playing with toys now that she has discovered crawling and moving. She loves to crawl back and forth from the living room to the sunroom to the kitchen. Her favorite toys do include things that she can shake or make good noise with. I'm trying to get into a more regular reading habit with her, but she has to be in the right mood to sit still long enough to even look at the book. She loves to watch Little Baby Bum on Netflix before bed.

She just recently got two more teeth on the bottom - so has four teeth on the bottom in total. She is working on her third and fourth teeth up top, and this has caused a bit of irritability the last week. She will be happy as can be one minute and will then break out into a tantrum the next for no apparent reason. She also has been extra clingy this past week, but my "Wonder Weeks" app has informed me to expect this for the next few weeks due to the mental "leap" she is going through at this current age. Kaitlyn also had her doctor's appointment yesterday - she is just over 21 pounds, putting her in the 75th percentile for weight, and she is in the 50th percentile for height. She didn't cry at all when they pricked her finger, but hated her four shots she had to receive. I don't blame her. Four at once with two teeth coming in is a rough go for anyone! Otherwise, doctor says she looks great and is developing right on target.

Baby girl is still wearing mostly 18 month clothes, though some of the tops are a little snug on her depending on the style. Her hair is growing quickly, and she sported her first ponytail this past week! She doesn't like to keep her barrette bows in her hair, but seems less bothered with the pony tail - though Daddy isn't a fan of them. ;) Sometimes it's a must to keep that hair out of her eyes!

And that's a wrap on our monthly updates! I'll be posting videos from time to time, but I'm so glad we have a full year of posts to look back on to remember our girl's first year.

And I think she's had enough of the letter board. ;)

Just a few pictures of the last month... with a whole host of summer updates still to come.

One last time. Our girls' first year of growth:
