It feels a little weird to go back in time and blog about life before the birth of our sweet Kaitlyn, but before we get to stories of our girl, I do still have some family memories to share of our final days just the four of us.
The 4th of July was a little different this year. It's become one of my favorite holidays - mainly because it's the only summer holiday - and I have taken it upon myself to be the 4th of July host for parties and traditions several years in a row now. However, this 4th of July fell just one week before my due date, it was incredibly hot and humid outside, and my family insisted that I not try to plan a big shindig but to instead keep my feet up and take it easy. (Not easy for me to do on a holiday!) And not only was it incredibly hot outside, but it was quite rainy for parts of the day, too. Not an ideal way to spend our only summer holiday but we made do and still had some fun. We worked on stretching our the Wednesday holiday into the following weekend and sprinkled a little red, white and blue into our daily routines all week long.
Cassi and James offered to take the baton this year and hosted us all at their house for the day. I made my dad's birthday cake to take with us to the party, Tim smoked some yummy ribs, and everyone pitched in with food so that we had plenty to eat all afternoon.
Luckily, by evening and sun down the rain had stopped, and we were able to head outside for sparklers before caravaning to fireworks, tailgating in the VGM parking lot and catching the Sunnyside Country Club show - one of the only fireworks events that didn't end up getting cancelled that week due to weather conflicts.
It was a good day, but I'm looking forward to next year's celebration - bringing us all back to our own backyard and dressing our little princess in her Americana best. :)
