Kaitlyn || Two Months

Our sweet baby girl is two months old today, and I don't know how it's possible, but she gets prettier and cuter by the day, too!

It's been an exhausting two months filled with love and gratitude. Sometimes I still have to pinch myself that I'm doing this. I'm raising a daughter. I have my own very sweet baby girl dressed in pink, with growing brown hair, pretty blue eyes (for now), and a smile that melts us all - especially her big brothers. :) Every morning when I get to pick out her clothes for the day... or as I'm shopping for Christmas gift ideas or new kids books on Amazon... I thank God for the opportunity to pick out girly things. :) And then I thank him again that I get to do this motherhood journey with boys AND a girl. To get to experience both worlds is everything I wanted when I dreamed of being a mom, and here I am - living it!

But -- back to our baby girl. I can't believe we're at the two-month mark already. We have her two-month checkup and immunizations with her doctor this afternoon, and though I'm eager to hear how she's grown, I'm not looking forward to the shots. She and I both will be leaning on Daddy for support with those. ;)

All about Kaitlyn at two months old:

She's now breast AND formula fed. We're supplementing with formula at daycare and feeding her mama's milk in the evenings and on weekends. It's what works for us - for now - and I'm grateful that I can continue to make this whole nursing thing work while I myself am now back to work. She still eats every two to three hours during the day, although she can now go four-five hours at night on a more regular basis. She hasn't slept through an entire night yet, but things are definitely better than they used to be as far as sleep goes. ;)

She smiles regularly now, and we don't have to work very hard to get one out of her. I can't wait for the giggles because often times her smiles turn into big open-mouthed grins and I can just tell she's trying to find that voice box to let out a giggle or two. :)

Her cooing is about the sweetest sound I've ever heard, and the boys get the giggles when she does it. Speaking of the boys, they absolutely adore her. During my pregnancy, Brandon showed the most excitement, but now that she's here, they BOTH just swoon over her. Sometimes I have to ask them to back away a bit, as I think she gets overwhelmed when both of them are in her face at the same time trying to entertain her and compete for her attention. ;)

She curls her toes tightly under her feet - just like her mama!

She loves her baths in the sink but HATES when it's over. She will go from very happy and content in that warm water to a full on screaming fit as soon as the water is turned off. The other night, Cody tried to treat her to a longer bath by filling the sink up to the brim and showing her how to splash after we were done washing her. She re-paid us by pooping in the bath water after we had already cleaned her. ;)

She still loves to chat with us when lying on her changing mat for a diaper change... and loves watching those little birdies spin around above her head when playing on her baby gym mat.

When fussy or tired, she must be swaddled and held, but there have been a few evenings now where she has fallen asleep on the floor before we can get her moved!

She sleeps in her crib all night long, but still prefers the bouncy seat or our arms for daytime naps.

She loves to stick out her tongue and gets the biggest smile on her face when Cody or Brandon whistles to her. (Mommy can't whistle). :(

She wears size 2 diapers and is transitioning into 3-6 month clothes. There are still a few 0-3 month items that fit her - especially anything with pants - but her onesies are getting increasingly small and tight on her. She has a long torso and shorter legs. :) She does not like getting dressed or undressed. She doesn't mind having things slipped over her head, but she hates when we have to force her arms in or out of sleeves. :)

She still hates her swing which is such a stark contrast from the boys - who both LOVED their swing.

She loves going for walks in the stroller but does not like to be subjected to the outdoor elements such as sun or wind. As long as she is shielded or sheltered, she's happy outside.

She does well in the car seat as long as she's moving. Car rides used to put her to sleep instantly, but she's starting to stay awake more often for little drives around town.

She likes her pacifier but also likes her fist, and she's been real close to finding her thumb more and more lately.

She makes facial expressions with her eye brows that just kill us. She can show a world of different emotions just by raising or moving an eyebrow around, and it is so stinking adorable.

We're getting into as much of an evening routine as we can with the crazy schedules we keep. Kaitlyn's evenings typically include a supper-time feeding, a bath every other night, a clothing change, a sleep sack, some essential oils on her feet, some bouncy seat time at the supper table while the rest of us eat, a book reading if time allows... and some bedtime cuddles on Daddy's shoulders in the sun room before bed. She's typically down for the night between 7:30-8:30. Mommy follows by being in bed no later than 9:30. :) Mornings are still pretty sporadic. Depending on what time she eats during the night, she can sometimes sleep in until 7:00. Other times, she's up by 6:30 but will then typically need to go back to sleep by 7:30 for her first nap of the day. And she still has a night or two a week where she likes to wake up at 4am and not go back to sleep right away.

She started at daycare on Monday with Miss Kathy, and that seems to be going really well. We're lucky to have found Kathy, and when I dropped Kaitlyn off on Monday morning, Kathy said to me, "She will do great Mom. I will love her likes Jesus does." That's all I needed to hear!
